SSC CGL: The Ultimate Desi Guide to Cracking the Exam

Welcome, bhai/behen! Agar tum government job ka sapna dekh rahe ho, aur wahan bhi ek “Officer” wali feeling chahiye, toh SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level) tumhara raasta hai. Yeh ek aisi exam hai jo tumhe sidha Central Government ki alag-alag ministries aur departments mein Group B aur Group C posts (jaise Inspector, Sub-Inspector, Assistant) dila sakti hai.

Lekin, competition bhayankar hai. Lakhon bachche baithte hain, aur seat kuch hazaron mein hoti hai. Toh strategy solid honi chahiye, syllabus tips pe hona chahiye, aur mehnat dabake karni padegi.

1. Exam Pattern: Khel ka Maidan Kaisa Hai?

Pehle yeh samajhte hain ki exam hota kaise hai. SSC CGL mein ab naya pattern chal raha hai. Yeh do Tiers (phases) mein hota hai. Dono online (CBT – Computer Based Test) hote hain.

Tier-I (Screening Test)

Yeh sirf qualifying hota hai. Matlab iske marks final merit mein nahi judte, lekin isko paas karna zaroori hai Tier-II dene ke liye.

Time: 60 Minutes (1 hour)
Total Questions: 100
Total Marks: 200 (Har sahi sawaal par 2 marks)
Negative Marking: 0.50 marks (Aadha mark) katenge har galat jawaab par. Bhai, tukka nahi maarna!

General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 Qs, 50 Marks)
General Awareness (GK/GS) (25 Qs, 50 Marks)
Quantitative Aptitude (Maths) (25 Qs, 50 Marks)
English Comprehension (25 Qs, 50 Marks)

Tier-II (The Decider)

Yeh asli game hai. Tumhara final selection aur kaunsi post milegi, yeh iske marks par depend karega. Yeh thoda lamba aur complex hai. Isme alag-alag papers hote hain post ke hisaab se.

Paper-I (Compulsory for ALL posts): Yeh sabko dena hai. Isme 3 sections hote hain, har section mein 2 modules.

Time: 2 Hours 15 Minutes
Total Questions: 130 + 20 (Computer) + Typing
Negative Marking: 1 mark har galat jawaab par (except Computer section where it might differ slightly, but usually 1 mark).

Section 1: Mathematical Abilities & Reasoning (1 Hour)

Module-I: Mathematical Abilities (30 Qs, 90 Marks – Har sawaal 3 marks)
Module-II: Reasoning and General Intelligence (30 Qs, 90 Marks)
(Total: 60 Qs, 180 Marks)

Section 2: English & General Awareness (1 Hour)

Module-I: English Language and Comprehension (45 Qs, 135 Marks)
Module-II: General Awareness (25 Qs, 75 Marks)
(Total: 70 Qs, 210 Marks)

Section 3: Computer Knowledge Test (CKT) & Typing Test (15 Minutes each)

Module-I: Computer Knowledge Test (20 Qs, 60 Marks) – Yeh sirf qualifying hai, par paas hona zaroori hai!
Module-II: Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) – Typing test (approx 2000 key depressions in 15 mins). Yeh bhi qualifying hai.

(Note: Kuch specific posts ke liye Paper-II (Statistics) aur Paper-III (General Studies-Finance and Economics) bhi hote hain. Agar un posts ke liye apply kiya hai, toh wo bhi dene padenge.)

Yeh lo bhai, topic-wise list. Inko wall pe chipka lo.

A. General Intelligence & Reasoning

Yeh section scoring hota hai. Dimag ki kasrat karni hai.

Verbal Reasoning: Analogies, Classification, Series, Coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Venn Diagrams, Syllogism, Seating Arrangement, Word Building.
Non-Verbal Reasoning: Figural Analogy, Figural Classification, Series, Paper Folding & Cutting, Mirror/Water Images, Embedded Figures.
Other: Clock & Calendar, Matrix.

B. General Awareness

Sabse zyaada dhokha yahi section deta hai. Syllabus bahut vast hai.

Current Affairs: Pichle 8-10 mahine ke events. Sabse important part.
History: Ancient, Medieval, aur Modern India.
Geography: Physical, Indian, aur basic World Geography.
Polity: Indian Constitution, Articles, Parliament, Judiciary.
Economy: Basic terms, Five Year Plans, Budget, Repo Rate.
General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Class 10th level tak). Biology pe zyada focus.
Static GK: Dates, National Parks, Capitals, Currencies, Folk Dances, Books & Authors.

C. Quantitative Aptitude (Maths)

Speed aur accuracy dono chahiye. Isey do parts mein baant lo:

Arithmetic:

Percentages, Ratio & Proportion, Average.
Profit, Loss & Discount.
Simple Interest (SI) & Compound Interest (CI).
Time & Work, Pipes & Cisterns.
Speed, Time & Distance, Boats & Streams, Trains.
Mixture & Alligation. Partnership.

Advance Maths:

Number System: Divisibility, Remainders, Unit Digit, LCM, HCF.
Algebra: Basic identities, Polynomials.
Geometry: Lines, Angles, Triangles, Circles, Polygons.
Mensuration: 2D aur 3D figures jaise Cylinder, Cone, Sphere.
Trigonometry: Basic ratios, Heights & Distances.
Data Interpretation (DI): Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables.

D. English Comprehension

Hindi medium walon ko yahan thodi dikkat hoti hai, par practice se set ho jaata hai.

1. Grammar:

Spotting the Error, Sentence Improvement, Active/Passive Voice, Narration, Fill in the blanks.
Key topics: Noun, Pronoun, Verb, Tense, Subject-Verb Agreement, Adjective, Preposition.

2. Vocabulary:

Synonyms & Antonyms.
One Word Substitution (OWS).
Idioms & Phrases.
Spelling Correction.

3. Reading Comprehension:

Passage reading aur uspe based questions.
Cloze Test.

E. Computer Knowledge (Tier-II only)

Bhai, isko halke mein mat lena. Fail hue toh game over!

Basic Fundamentals: CPU, Memory, I/O devices, Windows OS.
MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint (Shortcuts zaroori hain).
Internet & Email: Browsers, Search Engines, CC, BCC.
Networking & Security: LAN, WAN, Virus, Trojans, Hackers.

3. Cutoff Trends: Kitne Marks Chahiye?

Cutoff har saal change hota hai. Yeh ek rough estimate hai (General/UR category ke liye) taaki mind makeup ho sake.

Tier-I Cutoff (Out of 200)

Safe Score Target: Kam se kam 145-155+ marks target karo.

Tier-I Safe Attempt Strategy:
Reasoning: 22-24 | Maths: 20-22 | English: 20-22 | GK/GA: 12-15
Total Attempts: 75-85 questions (90% accuracy).

Tier-II Final Merit Cutoff (Out of 390)

4600 Grade Pay (Inspector posts): Target Score 325-335+. Safe zone is 330+.
2800/2400 Grade Pay (Auditor/TA): Target Score 295-310+.

Red Flag 🚩: Computer ka cutoff alag se lagta hai. CPG (Computer Proficiency) wali posts (jaise ASO, Inspector) ke liye computer mein 60 mein se 25-30 marks tak maang lete hain! Toh Computer padhna zaroori hai.

4. How to Prepare? (Bhai ki Strategy)

Step 1: Base Banau (Mahina 1 se 3)

Mock Test mat dena abhi: Pehle syllabus khatam karo.

Maths: Arithmetic se shuru karo. YouTube par ek teacher pakdo. Notes banao aur har chapter ke baad 100-150 PYQ solve karo.
English: Grammar roz padho (Neetu Singh Vol 1). Roz 20-30 naye words (Vocab) yaad karo.
Reasoning: YouTube se samjho aur seedhe PYQ lagao.
GK/GA: Lucent GK padhna shuru karo. Roz ek current affairs video dekho.

Step 2: Practice & Speed (Mahina 4 se 5)

Maths: Advance Maths par focus karo aur Arithmetic ki practice. Shortcuts seekho.
English: Vocab double karo. Roz newspaper ka Editorial padho (15 mins).
Sectional Mocks: Maths, English ya Reasoning ke 25-25 Qs wale tests timer laga kar do.

Step 3: War Mode (Aakhri Mahina)

Roz kam se kam ek ya do Tier-1 mock do.

Analysis is King: Ek mock ke analysis mein 1 ghanta lagao. Kaunsa question choda? Kaunsa galat hua? Shortcut socho.

Computer: Basic PDF ya YouTube playlist se padho.
Typing: Roz 20-30 minute practice zaroor karo.

Kuch Important “Desi” Tips:

Ek Source, 10 Baar: 10 kitabein mat khareedo. Ek kitab lo aur usey 10 baar padho.
PYQ hi Bhagwan hain: 2018 se 2023 tak ke saare TCS wale questions rat daalo.
Bheed se bacho: YouTube controversies se door raho. Khud padho.
Consistency: Roz 6-8 ghante padhna padega. Ek din 14 ghante padhne se kuch nahi hoga.
